Movie Review : Dawn of the Dead 2004

Ok-huge Romero fan, he puts together true low budget horror like no one else (other than Tobe) After his 2nd zombie movie, Dawn of the Dead, became such a wonderful hit-he used the money and made a not so great end to the trilogy called-Day of the Dead-. This remake falls somewhere in-between those two. Character development was non existent in this film, but the scares, zombies getting hit by trucks, and the unique establishing shots more than made up for the shortcommings. I felt a little peril in a few spots, but it would have been better with a bit more tension. Visually it looked like they used the same camera Romero did in 78, bad lighting and all. So while the action seemed to be updated, all the modern advances were lost by the film quality. I make it sound pretty bad-huh-well it-s not. The pace and violence mesh very well and some of the slower moments, waiting for someone to turn, also worked. And man, were the zombies fast!! But the kicker goes to the cool sky shots that show the scale of what was going on-.. OOOOHHHH! So yea-.I liked it.
