The Crazies (2010) 3.5 of 5

The Crazies is a remake of a low budget George A. Romero film. A toxic spill causes a small Iowa town to go nuts. Timothy Olyphant is the Iowa town’s sheriff and the film is mostly from his point of view. Every actor drives it home and you honestly become interested on whether they will make it out alive. It starts small’¦an old man walks into center-field with a shot gun on opening day at the High School field’¦.but then creeps at a great pace with larger and larger problems and scares’¦many of them larger than the perceived budget of the film. Breck Eisner of ‘™my dad ran Disney’™ and one of my guilty pleasures’¦Sahara’¦takes the helm of this picture and puts lots of spit polish on it making a very good horror film indeed. Remember when you first saw ‘˜Jeepers Kreepers‘™ and thought wow’¦that was a lot better than I thought it would be’¦well this one falls into that category. The one rare compliment I can give to remakes is ‘¦That’s how you do it’™’¦and this earns that compliment as well.
