Sing the year you were born’¦.yea! Everything is starting to settle down now as the front runners are fading back to the pack’¦.and some surprises are shooting through the ranks. How they finished.

David Cook ‘“ Easily took home the night with a unique version of Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean. Took a pop song and made it a Seattle Rock song (Chris Cornell’¦you know’¦’™black hole sun’™ version)’¦.and it worked’¦very ,very well. He’s had three great weeks’¦and is starting to look like a definite finalist (he just needs to keep his forehead covered…jeeez’¦its like brainiac!)

Carly ‘˜Tunstall’™ Smithson ‘“ ‘˜Total Eclipse of the Heart’™’¦I think everyone was a little to hard on her for this one’¦sure it would have fit Amanda better’¦sure it was Jessica Sierra’s (in jail btw) signature song’¦sure it is a bit awkward’¦wait’¦ok she deserved the criticism’¦and dammit she just peed ‘¦give the woman a break. Just a little off’¦but still a frontrunner.

Syesha ‘˜Whitney’™ Mercado ‘“ Playing off one of the better performances last week (not really saying a lot) keeps the same vein with another song I don’t remember’¦but tells the story’¦and hits the notes easily…well done’¦moving up.

David Archuleta ‘“ Did Ok with a song I didn’t like’¦was badly written’¦and never heard of’¦let alone would never buy. Simon (as always) was spot on defining as a (Disney) children’s stage show performance. Still holding on to top 5’¦.but defiantly swallowed by the pack.

Brooke ‘˜Carly’™ White ‘“ ‘œEvery Breath You Take’ Still using that Tori Amos/Carly Simon style that works with everything’¦but this week the bubble is gone’¦chastised by everyone (me too) for being silly last week’¦she flipped the coin and did it way too seriously. Good overall performance (albeit a bit stiff)…even with the false start’¦which kind of made it better in a way. Still top 5.

Kristy ‘˜Kyra’™ Cook- Cheater!!…not really but singing a great patriotic song gives you way too many free style points even if you screw it up. But other than that’¦it was the perfect song for her’¦Greenwood doesn’t have a great voice’¦so her above average vocals and country twang made it better than the original. Her best so far this year.

Michael Johns ‘“ FINNALLY!!!…he sings. So far this year his song choices has been off the beaten path’¦and nearly no vocal showmanship’¦Queen got him through Hollywood week’¦and Queen once again raised him from defeat. He actually hit notes and holds them’¦a stark improvement indeed.

Chickezie ‘“ Yea!… Vandross’¦in his wheelhouse’¦and he did it well’¦but in comparison to everyone else’s dynamic offerings’¦he stays in the bottom 5

Ramiele Malubay ‘“ ‘˜Alone’™ Now picking a song I love is very dangerous (I become hyper critical)’¦and another week of practice could have made it better’¦but Carly’s version this year was better’¦and this was a 1 on a scale of 10 in comparison to Carrie Underwood’s stab at in a few years ago. Technically she gets the closest to the original’¦but nothing special.

Jason Castro ‘“ OK’¦Once again the low man’¦its not that his singer/songwriter coffee bar style doesn’t work’¦it’s just that it is limiting and pale by the power of all above him (and he’s a pothead’¦come on ‘¦you are all thinking it’¦.not that there is anything wrong with that)
